Felted bags are a wildly popular knitting project, but sometimes the finishing part gets bogged down with the question of handles. You certainly can knit and felt handles, but these days there are a whole lot of other choices.
We are pleased to offer genuine leather handles for your bag. These are great - fashionable colors, excellent quality - and the best part - they smell like leather! Ask us to open the drawer - and add one to your felted purse.
We have a couple of small books available that are just charming. We are pleased to offer a small volume of Charley Harper's Birds. Charley was an American artist who is known for his stylized illustrations of nature - especially birds.
Why are we featuring it? Many of Charley's pieces were painted onto needlepoint canvas - they are amusing and whimsical and that's how his work is known to a generation of needlepointers. This little book will be terrific for stitchers and non-stitchers alike. Make note for the holidays.
Also featuring Charley's work is the little ABC book - perfect for children - also a great little gift.
We also have several Charley Harper canvases in stock, including this version of his "Red and Fed" illustration. Lots of opportunity for textural stitches and different fibers.
And coming this week: the Maggie needlepoint Trunk Show!
These fuzzy photos are trying to show what's in the front window - a great selection of kits from Vivian Hoxbro! Sweaters and scarves with some fantastic techniques - sometimes it's just fun to grab a project which is all ready to go.
Vivian has always produced interesting design techniques and tasteful garments, and it's a great treat to see so many of her kits. Fun colors too.
One of these might be that cabin project you were searching for!
Here's more of that big shipment from Berroco:
These are the new multicolored yarns - Peruvia Colors is the variably colored version of the Peruvia line - this one is thinner than the Quick featured here last time - about a heavy worsted. As you can see, the colors are really lovely and this yarn will surely be a great option for many projects.
Then in the continuing quest for Noro-esque color: Geode. Long stretches of color with gradual changes - it really is a great concept and this lo
oks to be a fun knit. The pattern booklets show this fiber in several very interesting designs.
We also were restocked in Jasper, last year's gorgeous multi-color offering. And for those of you interested in soft, Berroco's alpaca selections are also replenished.
Lots of choices!
Berroco sent us a huge shipment late last week and it had a whole lot of goodies in it. Several new yarns came in and they look wonderful.
Peruvia Quick is just yummy - knits up at 3 to the inch and has a lot of great colors - including some heathery ones.
Cuzco is a wool/alpaca blend and knits up at 5 to the inch. These are both wonderfully soft and will be great for a lot of different projects.
And if you need ideas for projects,
Berroco outdid themselves with pattern booklets. Norah Gaughan penned their lead booklet - and it includes a lot of designs, several of which are going into my project queue. With tasteful cables and shaping, these designs are winners.
Most years we'd be happy to get just one good collection of patterns from a collection, but they sent several more booklets - and they're all good. The designs feature their new yarns, as well as some of their old favorites. Most are in worsted weight - and you will have lots of choices - including the lovely new Berroco fibers.
This shipment also included a couple of new multicolored yarns and we are resupplied in some old favorites. Stay tuned!
While this is not the time of year to yearn for super-warm socks, it may be a great time to make them. We are happy to offer new alpaca sock yarn - not only really warm - but gorgeous colors as well.
Socks are great summer knitting - nothing warming up your lap - and they're nicely portable. And we have everything from alpaca to wool - even a couple of non-animal fiber choices!
Apologies! I goofed up the code and you couldn't register for the Cookie A classes. I deleted a "^" and it all works now! Space is still available and you may now register online.
If you're in the neighborhood, we've received fabulous new products from Zecca. You may be familiar with their very fun buttons, but they've got more. We did get a wonderful assortment of buttons - even an
assortment of "singles" - those very special ones for a purse or a wrap.
Zecca also does needle vials - and these are great - if you're looking for a gift idea, these will fit the bill for a lot of needlepointers and knitters.
Then
, even better, Zecca does needlepoint canvases. Great colors and designs that invite creative stitching - check them out!
All sorts of Zecca fun!
So, the Jojoland shipment I featured the other day also included a brand new yarn: Rhythm. It's a bit heavier - seems like a worsted - and the colors are a whole lot more vibrant. Well, maybe a whole lot more vibrant.
This one looks like a lot of fun - it's located on the main yarn wall. Check it out!
Along with all the excellent new sock yarns in the store, a couple of new sock books have appeared as well.
The Eclectic Sole is terrific.
It has a wide range of designs - the one here is a riot of color in what seems to be a version of a fairly traditional design. It looks like a Noro-type yarn knit in a fair isle design with a solid - it's gorgeous - and it's just a taste of the intriguing designs in the book.
There are also a number of patterns featuring multi-colored and handpainted yarn. The patterns compliment the characteristics of the yarns - it's truly fun to see. There's a lot to look at carefully and appreciate.
If leg warmers and pedicure socks are your passion, then you need to take a look at Love to Knit Socks. This book features a larger variety of sock types - some very unusual!
AND just because we've always stocked a great selection of sock yarn and so many of you are sock addicts connoisseurs,
we are thrilled to bring in one of the most exciting new designers in the realm of handknit socks:
COOKIE A!
It's true - Cookie A will be teaching at Needlework Unlimited on Tuesday, July 29 - register online. Space is limited.
You don't even have to be a sock knitter to enjoy this opportunity - but you might get inspired!
